the revolution a manifesto ron paul Opinionated Book Review: Ron Paul The RevolutionLast night I read a very interesting book; The Revolution by Ron Paul, yes, I know, many people think Ron Paul is just a cranky, old, anti-war libertarian, that ran for President, but he seems to be much more than that!

Ron Paul, based on my opinion of what he wrote in this book, is much more than just a cranky old man, but he is that too. The book is definitely a good read if you want to expand your understanding about one possibility of what America could be like if we were to move to more of a “Real” free market, and were to abide by the Constitution as the framers intended. In this area I agree almost completely with him, but, he has a very serious anti-war attitude that I do not agree with!

It seems to me that Ron Paul dreams of an America from the past, most of which sounds really good, but the one thing that runs all through his book, even in areas that he may not have intended, is that “Ignore the World and it will go away” attitude. Yes, it would be great if that were true, but the Hitlers, and Saddams, of the world will never go away on their own, and when they show up, somebody has to remove them! If we do not have military poised and positioned around the world, getting to know the local people of the world while watching out for the bad guys, what would we do with the troops? Remember what happened to all of the old, now closed military bases here in America? Yeah, they are gone, because they were not needed. It was more practical to have the troops all over, instead of holed up here, where it would be a logistical nightmare if they actually had to go somewhere!

I have to say, there was a time, before WW2, that is almost exactly his vision, and to imagine what America would be like, had nothing changed, and we all still got paid 30 cents a week, you have to wonder. But, yeah, there is that word, “BUT”, to think that rolling the clock back is even possible, or much less, desirable, is just some kind of fantasy, it cannot happen, sorry. It would be a bit like putting the toothpaste back in the tube after you squeeze it out, in other words, not likely.

Ron Paul does have the right idea about Freedom though, I agree with him almost completely, when it comes to everybody living their own life and leaving everybody else alone! I may be mistaken, but his fears about “Big Brother” spying on us and using what they learn for some sort of evil reason is another fantasy, much like those of all of the “Conspiricy” freaks. Maybe it is what I call paranoia? As far as I am concerned, they can have a party line on my phone, if I am talking about illegal stuff, then shouldn’t I get busted? When my daughter calls from Germany and we talk about what kind of German goodies she can bring me does not constitute a crime, if “Big Brother” has nothing better to do, he can listen, I don’t care, I have nothing to hide!

I really like the way that Ron Paul explains about why Marihuana, as he spells it, marijuana, weed, pot, wacky tobacky, what ever you want to call was made illegal and by whom, yep, it was those dreaded revenuers! That kind of figures doesn’t it, tax this, tax that, it is rediculous, I am surprised they don’t tax breathing and sex too, oh wait, I guess they do, it costs money just to be alive these days!

Personally, I cannot understand how, if I plant a seed, then God makes it grow, then I decide, hmm, wonder what would happen if I smoked that, that this could somehow be illegal? Hey, when I was a kid, my mother made jelly out of roses, what is the difference?

To sum it all up, I am really glad that I read Ron Paul’s book, and I feel that everyone should read it. No, I could never have voted for him for President, he is just a bit too detached from reality for me, but I believe that we could all learn from him. Ron Paul has a great message and is doing what he can to pass it on to the next generations, I have a definitely different opinion about Ron Paul after reading his book.
