I think this Calvin cartoon covers a lot! Think about it. The girl is growing boobs, and the boy still has a stuffed animal, this cartoon is obviously not about politics, but provides us with a view of reality in our society today.
Personally, when I was 15, yes, fifteen years old, I had my own job, an apartment and a new pick-up! (1979) and too many girlfriends. I was what? (A) Responsible?(B) Grown-up? (C) Headed for trouble? (D) a young stud?
If you didn’t choose (C), you are wrong! I was seriously headed for all kinds of trouble! I thought I was a “grown-up”, I had a great job, and an apartment until an ex-girlfriend’s mom turned me in! The truck I lost soon after by wrecking it! But that was just the beginning! As it all came together, and I got off probation, I joined the Army, that straightened me out!
I do have to say, it was when I was first becoming aware of the world around me, remember the Iranian Hostage Situation? I joined, the Army, with a plan, first, I was going to Germany to the Octoberfest, (I lived there 10 years, never made it!), got my GED, then, as I had planned, there would be a war with Iran, where I would go finish what I had to do! What I wanted to do, (and still would if I wasn’t 45 and fat) defend my country!
That also never happened, maybe it should have? Instead, Ronald Reagan ended the Cold War, and things got a bit weird, the Army got even worse! We had no purpose! Remember the movie Stripes? That was us! The Army was a joke once there was no longer anything to train for, then came Clinton, thank God I was out by then! He just started wars to cover up his affairs! Send in a few troupes, get them killed, then call it off, with no victory in a few weeks!
Anyway, my point is, at 18 years old, I had no clue, yet I was as smart as most anybody else, smarter than some, but I was only 18! I got married at 19 and now, at 45, my daughter is almost 25! Thank God she stayed in school, and still is! She will be a teacher, in Germany, not America, here, well, I hate to think about it! She has a boyfriend who is 31 I believe and way better off at that age than I was. So, what am I trying to say, if I would have had my way, this world would have been a mess! Thank God my generation didn’t vote! All we did was drink beer and…….hang on, I’m thinking……..did I say we drank beer? Oh yeah, we liked to fight! Oh, it was also legal then, at 18, you could drink or fight, for a short time anyway, the drinking age went up after I turned 19, and you went to jail for fighting!
Here is where I am headed with this. Do you want these important decisions made by “children”? Our society here has changed from 1979, then, we wanted to be tough! Remember Smokey and the Bandit? Rambo? Now, the Youth Movement is headed to, well, its not good in some places, drugs have now replaced beer, and killing each other has replaced fighting.
The one thing that has remained constant, is that kids are kids! Funny, we can join the Army at 18, vote for president, (that is scary) but yet, the kids can’t drink a beer! (legally) Maybe these kids are just going to do what they think will mess up the adults? The old “rebellion” all over again, remember the 60’s and the hippies? Wow, these are their grandchildren! Have you noticed they are smarter? God Bless America, somebody has to, we need it!
This generation of American kids, other than the heroes currently serving or planning to serve in the military, not only don’t want to fight, they want to surrender! Look at what is happening at Berkley. The kids in all of the “west” are now that way, yet the “extremist” Muslim groups want to die! They think they will get virgins for it, hey, I could almost understand if it was real, (the only virgins left are the ugliest girls in the first grade) and that is way too young!
I didn’t believe in God, or Jesus, until I was 35, before then I just thought it a possibility. These Extremists start at birth! Hmm, their god vs our God? But how many Gods are there? Is there any God? Another scary topic! Sounds Biblical in proportion , hmm, maybe it is?
What do I want you to come away with after reading this? First, parents need to kick their kid’s ass if necessary to keep them straight and sober, suggest joining the military, it saved my life, and at least introduce the kid to Jesus, don’t shove the Bible up their butt sideways, but tell them there is a possibility, and let them decide, even if that doesn’t happen for 30 years and last, but definitely not least, teach them about integrity and what their country stands for and why it was created!
Now you have it! Come on comments!
