This is the insanity of electing a reality TV host as president.
You don’t get sound, reasoned government. You get a circus act. You get the “Jerry Springer” presidency.
When Trump brought Anthony Scaramucci in as communications director, White House press secretary Sean Spicer apparently saw the writing on the wall and resigned.
Good for him.
Spicer knew what was coming, and wanted no part in it.
Scaramucci has proven to be combative and vile, just like the man who brought him in, and trouble followed closely behind him.
Throughout the week, the new communications director has been taking shots at “leakers,” and making it known that he had White House chief of staff Reince Priebus in his crosshairs.
On Thursday, the New Yorker released the transcript of a conversation between Scaramucci and reporter Ryan Lizza that was so unhinged and so profane, under a normal administration, he would have been released from his duties without delay.
The worst part about it was that he was targeting colleagues by name.
So who did Trump let go on Friday?
Well, it wasn’t Scaramucci.
A Wall Street Journal article points out how the Commander-in-Chief felt about the latest, very open conflict between those on his staff.
President Trump was reportedly unhappy with former chief of staff Reince Priebus for not “returning fire” at White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci following an explosive interview with the New Yorker this week.
An adviser to Trump told The Wall Street Journal that Trump was “dismissive” of Priebus for not firing back at Scaramucci. Scaramucci unloaded on Priebus in the interview with New Yorker writer Ryan Lizza, calling the then-chief of staff a “f——— paranoid schizophrenic” and a “paranoiac.”
Want further proof that Trump “leads” by pitting his staff against each other, rather than trying to foster a team atmosphere?
When he let Priebus know he was done as chief of staff, he didn’t take him aside and deliver the news. He brought him on Air Force One – along with Anthony Scaramucci – and delivered the news, before dismissing him from the plane to a waiting car on the tarmac.
It was just like being voted off the island, or something.
Trump was on Twitter before Priebus was able to get into the car, saying Priebus was out and Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly would be the new chief of staff.
I guess Scaramucci is getting challenged up, since he’d said last week that everyone would report directly to him.
Kelly is saying everyone will report directly to him, and there will be no extracurricular meetings in the Oval Office with the president.
It would almost be worth it to see such a petty little man challenge John Kelly.
Meanwhile, we have a president who has yet to pass any meaningful legislation and spends more time on his golf courses than in the Oval Office.
But at least he’s entertaining himself.
