Everyone knows, at least I hope they do, that our country, and the rest of the world for that matter, is in debt way up past our great-great- grand children’s ears, but have you really thought about why? Who are they trying to impress? Why are they trying to impress them? Our founding fathers rode horses and had buggies, did a rich man have a better horse than a poor man? Think about that for a minute, then keep reading, it will make sense.
There are basically three types of people, consumers, producers, and survivors:
- Consumers are those that tend to use up most if not all they have, whatever they produce is consumed, some even go beyond and accrue debt, a debt that will eventually consume them if a drastic change does not take place.
- Producers are those that tend to produce more than they consume thus creating a surplus, the more they produce the more this surplus grows.
- Survivors are a unique group, they may produce, but consumption and production go hand in hand, more of a balance of necessity than anything else.
Our government has been a consumer way too long and our dept is just about to consume us, so much that our government is now turning on our producers, trying to take more from them than they already do, and since the government only consumes and produces nothing, eventually the government will run out of the producers surplus.
What is the answer? Just like the individual must do, cut up the credit cards and stop the spending. If our government were to encourage all of us to become producers, the tax base will grow, but there is a catch, if everyone slows down their consumption, the state governments will lose tax revenue. Now we have another problem to solve, what do we do?
Look at where the state spends money, just like the Federal governments, state and local governments are consumers, not producers, they need to cut spending too.
Yes, that cut in spending will impact many people in a lot of ways but it beats a total collapse of our system. Where can they start cutting? Am I talking about the welfare and freebies they hand out like candy? No, not exactly, just the wasteful things, like bloated government union pension plans, new lease vehicles for senators etc. what I am saying is that our government needs to function more like the survivor, only consuming what it must, not what it wants.
Does anyone remember the day when school buses, police cars, even planes and tanks were not new? I do, as a kid, in a very good school district, at least back then, we had old busses, they even broke down once in a while, so what? The same with police cars, if the cops would quit crashing them so much they would last longer!
We need to slow down the rate of growth, the spending and the waste. Why do our government employees live like they are rich? Oh, because they are, why is that? Remember, government produces nothing, why should government employees live like they do? No, they should not get more than the non government equivalent worker.
What I am talking about is our elected employees, haven’t you heard about the $1,900 a month leases they have for cars? The mandatory requirement they have to get a hybrid, which costs double that of a non hybrid, is that not wasteful? Why can’t they out of the abundance of their own income, buy or lease their own car like everyone else?
Once the government starts operating on what it has, not what it plans to have in ten years, it will operate more efficiently, then, the government will live like it is poor!
